Armed police have fired rounds after stopping a car on the A27 in Lewes, East Sussex, but there were no injuries.
According to The Argus newspaper in Brighton, four or five unmarked police cars swooped on a Mercedes during rush hour at 4.30pm.
Witnesses said they then heard the sound of shots being fired before a man was seen walking away in handcuffs at the Kingston roundabout.
Barry Haffenden tweeted: "Spoken to a mate. Said five or six unmarked police cars swerved all over the place around a car. Heard several gun shots & then a bloke was cuffed."
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "Officers from the Metropolitan Police including armed officers carried out a stop of a vehicle on the A27 in Lewes, rounds were discharged but there were no injuries.
"Further details cannot be released for operational reasons."
