Nathan Jones hailed Albion’s character after they scored a welcome away win.
Substitutes Leroy Lita and David Lopez netted late on to clinch a 3-1 success at Doncaster.
The hosts had cancelled out Jake Forster-Caskey’s superb first-half goal and were preparing for a big finish.
But Lita’s close-range finish and David’s sublime free-kick took the wind out of their sails.
Assistant head coach Jones said: “We have played better than and lost or drawn but we had to dig deep.
“Conditions weren’t great and I thought we played quite well in the first half.
“We probably had enough but just lacked that final ball to be honest.
“We scored a great goal and in the second half we tried to capitalise on that but it wasn’t to be.
“Full credit to Donny. They grafted, they got their goal. But we got the win in the end.
“At 1-1, we chatted – me and the manager – and said ‘what do you want to do?’ and we went for it. We went for the win.
“We felt that we needed the three points.
“We felt it was a big three points to keep us in touch with everyone.”
