All the games we play are adding to our plans to improve and compete at the highest level"
John Donoghue
Albion women are preparing to face Eastbourne Town again this week, after facing the frustration of three consecutive postponements.Head coach John Donoghue admitted the lack of games have not helped his side but says he has taken steps to ensure the squad will be fully prepared for the game on Sunday.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “It’s been very testing and concerning that the team has been successful over the past few games, then we have a break for three weekends which pauses the progress we have been making.
“We have increased the intensity of training, both gym and on-field sports science sessions, and encouraged the players to perform their own training sessions.”
“I hope we will have good possession of the ball and maintain a real mental focus to perform at the same level as previous games.
“We always prepare the same for all opposition; I believe it is insulting to the other team if you drop your standards and don’t prepare fully for every game you play.
“We want to win every game; there aren’t any midweek fixtures so all the games we play are adding to our plans to improve and compete at the highest level.”
Donoghue’s side were due to travel to The Saffrons last week, after the first game against the same opposition was rained off with just 40 minutes played.
But the rescheduled cup tie fell victim to the wet weather once again, meaning the Seagulls haven’t played a full match since the 6-0 win at Lewes on 6th October.
However, the Seagulls have been boosted by the news that Cherelle Khassal will make a return to the squad after a lengthy absence caused by a hip injury, but Lily Agg (hamstring) has been ruled out of the match.
The game takes place at The Saffrons, 2pm kick-off.
