Oscar Garcia, Bruno Saltor and Inigo Calderon will be appearing on Sky Sports' Soccer AM tomorrow morning as part of a feature on Albion in the Community's futsal team. The Soccer AM team were at the Amex on Tuesday to film the futsal team taking part in training and studies as part of the AITC futsal scholarship which is backed by the Football League Trust. They also covered the team's 5-0 victory against Chelsea the following day in the national futsal cup.
The Albion boss and the full backs watched the team training before talking to the programme about their experience of playing the game in Spain and its role in the success of the Spanish national team.*
Futsal is a 5-aside form of football originally developed in South America but is hugely popular in Spain helping produce players such as Xaxi and Andreas Iniesta. The country have won two of the seven Futsal World Cup tournaments finishing as runners-up in another three.
AITC's Futsal Coordinator Hayley Funnell told seagulls.co.uk, "It was great to have Oscar, Bruno and Calde involved on the day and watch the players training. It will really help to raise the profile of the game and our scholarship and I'm sure it motivated the team for the Chelsea match!"
The programme goes out on Sky Sports 1 tomorrow between 10am – 12pm. The feature on the AITC futsal team will be screened during the first hour of the show.
AITC's futsal scholarship is a two year programme for 16-18 year-olds.* Students get the chance to study for a BTEC Level Extended Diploma and represent Brighton & Hove Albion at futsal.
