Facing 2 years in the nick due to coke dealing, a sad post script to an 'interesting' career.

He was never really world class, just in the right place at the right time, boxing wise.

Shame really, he could have carved out a decent career as a bouncer.

What a waste.

Great name for a drug dealer that, Herbie Hide. Conjures up images of marijuana hastily being placed in toilet cisterns as the police batter down the front door.

As ever you show your lack of boxing knowledge, Herbie Hide was a top heavyweight and fought the very best like Klitchko and a peak Bowe. He had a punch to KO the best and wiped out Tony Tucker and if it wasn't for Lewis ducking him would have beaten him too

Cut the trash talk Ernest, Im not Dick Tight, Bowe destroyed Hide, as would have Lewis, Bruno and even our very own Scott Welch.

Herbie Hide was very underrated , trouble is he was a fruit cake. Do you remember when he provoked the crowd brawl at a Harrison fight ? I would rather have seen Hide v Welch than Welch v Akinwande which was one of the worst 'World Title' fights in history, Hide v Bruno would have been first to connect and around 1994 would have been a 50/50 fight because Hide smashed Bentt who would have been a good test for Bruno rather than the road sweepers Big Frank fought then, Lewis would have been a good fight and if Lennox had underrated him like he did McCall around this time he would have been KO'D by Hide.

I remember the Hide/Harrison spat and the subsequent headline "Herbie goes bananas"

Warren wanted Welch and Hide to fight but Hide swerved it.

wasnt that in a kick boxing fight?

Yes it was GoingUp. For a while some people thought he might be the real deal but the fact he fought in a gold sequinned skirt gave the game away ..............oh and the fact he kept getting knocked out as well.

My first live professional boxing match was hide vs tucker at the Norwich sports village in July 97. My uncle worked for the hotel chain so we got free everything:- hotel room, fight tickets, food & drink. We got invited back to the after party whereby we were served voul a vons and cocktails by the daily mirror girls whilst discussing the noble art with luminaries such as Michael buffer, johnny nelson & Jim Mcdonnell. It was the night of the infamous ear biting fight of Tyson vs Holyfield 2 so we saw that pan out with the majority of boxers on the undercard and their trainers.

Clifton Mitchell was another heavywieght prospect, nutured by ITV and Frank Warren in the good old days, who looked 'pretty handy' until they put him in with someone who actually hit him back.

Not forgetting Noel Quarless, Liverpool's answer to Joe Bugner........
