Dexter Blackstock is wanted on loan to bolster Albion's strike force
Albion are closing in on Dexter Blackstock as the latest loan addition to their injury-hit strike force.
The Seagulls’ interest in the Nottingham Forest marksman was exclusively revealed on The Argus website on Saturday night.
Albion want to add Blackstock to the capture of Leroy Lita, who made his debut on loan from Swansea as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Yeovil.
Assistant head coach Nathan Jones, speaking after the Yeovil game, did not name Blackstock but said: “We are looking for someone who will score goals, with presence. We think we have him but we have just got to finalise everything. Hopefully he will have someone but you never know. We have been trying for months.”
Forest have a surplus of strikers and Blackstock has only made three appearances for them this season. The 27-year-old has bagged 84 goals in 311 games for Forest, QPR, Derby, Plymouth and Southampton.
Blackstock has represented England at under-21 and youth level but qualifies for Antigua through his grandfather and made his senior debut for Antigua and Barbuda last year. Meanwhile, Jones has backed Lita to find his goal touch after Albion’s run of blank sheets away from home stretched to four games at Yeovil. Lita, on for the last half-hour in place of Ashley Barnes, had opportunities to score.
Jones said: “If Leroy’s at it and right on his game he will do well for us. He’s come in for his debut after training with us for one day.
“It’s been difficult for him. He came on and did affect the game, got chances. If he keeps getting chances then he will get goals.”
