Really, how does that work then Switzerland are amongst the top 8 seeds also along with Columbia & Belguim
Plus although they've not even qualified yet Uruguay will also be seeded instead of Holland if they beat JORDAN over 2 legs
Well I suppose if FIFA can give Quatar the World Cup anything is possible
So ENGLAND, ITALY & HOLLAND won't be seeded

Belgium fair enough. But I had to do a DOUBLE TAKE at Switzerland and bloody Columbia being seeded.

I just hope we're drawn into one of their groups. At least we'll be able to simply breeze through against these two-bob nations, like we usually do.

Ahem.

To be honest it's good to avoid Holland and Italy.

All the teams in pots 2-4 will want to be in the Swiss 'group of life'.

Yeah, the Uruguay thing is really stupid. It's because they decided to base it only on the FIFA rankings released today and as everybody outside of FIFA knows, the FIFA ranking are also really, really stupid.

I have a feeling we may be placed to avoid a European top seed to ensure we don't end up with three European sides in our group, as would be possible.

FIFA rankings / seedings are a complete joke. There was a great quote from Woy in the Torygraph today....

When I was called to the FIFA office when I was working for Switzerland in 1993 and told we were the second best team in the world, I lost all interest in seedings from that moment

Sums it up in post above yeah...... so how many 1/4 or semis have they made in last 12 years? What massive nations did they spank repeatidly in qualifying? Points must come from somewhere?

We will play Brazil in opening match, bank on it

Its to do with the rankings.

In comparison, France are 21st - although no one cares, mainly because its France.

FIFA rankings - the reason Switzerland are so high is because they've won loads of games in an Easier qualifying group, it's farcical

2 Germany 1311 1
3 Argentina 1266 -1
4 Colombia 1178 1
5 Belgium 1175 1
6 Uruguay 1164 1
7 Switzerland 1138 7
8 Netherlands 1136 1
8 Italy 1136 -4

That's the big issue with their ranking system. You would have thought it not beyond the realms of possibility to work out some kind of equation that takes the ranking of your opponent into consideration. As I understand it, we would have got the same ranking points for beating Poland and Montenegro as we got for beating San Marino.
