Albion’s Under-21s played out a thoroughly entertaining draw in a behind-closed-doors friendly against local rivals Crawley Town.
Simon Ireland’s side fell behind with just five minutes on the clock, as Luke Rooney’s free-kick was met by Connor Essam’s bullet header inside the box.
The Reds then had a chance to double their advantage when Rooney weaved his way inside the box, only to see his shot go narrowly wide of the far post.
But the Seagulls were next to strike thanks to Brennan Dickenson’s equaliser. Rohan Ince’s shot deflected into the path of the forward, who coolly rounded keeper Jonny Maddison.
Albion gradually increased their grip on the match; Ince dispossessed Rooney inside the box leading to Solly March’s saved shot, before Dickenson saw a close-range shot go over the bar.
March was involved in the thick of the action once again, meeting Adam Chicksen’s cross with a header that went just over the upright.
The persistent Albion pressure eventually paid off two minutes after the re-start when George Barker’s shot from distance was too hot to handle for Maddison and the ball went into the top corner.
The away side then brought parity to the scoreline ten minutes later as Emile Sinclair slotted the ball past substitute keeper Grant Smith.
Barker then grabbed his second of the match, showing great composure inside the box after latching onto March’s cross. The forward’s first shot was saved by Maddison, but he managed to convert at the second attempt to restore Albion’s advantage.
But the plucky Red Devils scored a decisive equaliser through Sergio Torres, who slid the ball home six minutes from time.
