The parachute payment is counted as revenue for FFP purposes. Thus they can afford a higher cost base (typically players' wages) than clubs without the parachute and still stay within the FFP rules, which for 2013/14 are a total loss of £8m (so long as £5m of that loss is covered by an injection of equity).
