Leo Ulloa is on crutches
Leo Ulloa has revealed his fractured metatarsal dates back to the day he rolled his left ankle against Burnley at the end of August.
The Seagull striker is out for about two months after being stretchered off in the draw with Sheffield Wednesday almost a fortnight ago, pictured right.
Ulloa went down in agony on his comeback from a three-game suspension.
He had used his lay-off to work on the ankle he hurt in the win over Burnley.
But he has been told the way he adjusted his stride to cope with discomfort before that put stress on his metatarsal and caused the fracture.
Ulloa told The Argus: “These injuries can happen to sportsmen.
“It's a very small bone and it tires or dilates or stresses “It came after I twisted my ankle. I was limping and the way I trod stressed my bone more.
“Unfortunately there was no way of knowing this would happen.
“It's a common injury, nothing complicated.
“But it takes time. It's two months and I just need to wait.
“I’ve been lucky. Thanks to God I've never had any serious injuries.”
Ulloa has vowed not to rush his return but his rehab is already under way.
The striker is on crutches and has his left foot encased in a protective boot.
He said: “The most important thing is I come back and I don’t have any more pains or problems.
“I'm training in the gym on my upper body. That’s what I can work on for now.
“I do anything my leg allows me to do.”
