Was rummaging through some old DVD's last night and came across the two Early Doors series. Watched a few episodes (and will again tonight). Class comedy. Really can't believe it was first aired in 2003!

Absolute classic, and much underrated.

In a sea of absolute shit getting repeated ad nauseum across all number of digital channels it's a rare treat to dig up an old comedy that's both well written and thoughtful whilst still being genuinely funny. Although it is obviously a little absurd and exaggerated in parts (the comedy policemen for a start), it's also very well observed in places and the sentimental bits (collecting for Eddie's gas bill or Ken worrying about Melanie meeting her real dad) aren't sickly and saccharine at all, managing to feel genuinely touching.

Such a simple everyday premise too. Just a bunch of locals in a spit and sawdust boozer struggling to survive under pressure from the brewery. It's a scene you could find in every town and city across the UK

Watched them all first time round and bought dvds. The strange thing is that nobody else we know watched them or even heard of them. Think they were on BBC2.

Gentle comedy, all in the dialogue, not slapstick. Great!!!

If you've ever been a regular in a pub you can relate to pretty much all of the characters.

The quiz night episode is just genius simple British comedy at it's best.

Abort, retry, fail
It's absolutely head and shoulders above most comedies produced. Whilst that is not quite a badge of honour, it should be.

Utter genius and such a shame it only ran so far. The story was told, so best left as it is/was.

The beauty of this series is that it wasn't flogged to death like his other show The Royal Family. TRF was a brilliant show, but the later Christmas specials weren't up to much, and Craig Cash's character Dave seemed to be more gormless with every passing episode.
ED was brilliant, set in a pub with people you could relate to, it had side splitting moments, but also some genuine lump in the throat bits as well, classic British comedy.
I still laugh at old Tommy singing Sex Bomb when they return from the Lap Dancing club .

Wonderful stuff, bits like the fag ash going on the sandwich are just brilliant. It is those subtle touches that puts British comedy above American comedy- no audience, no applause when a cast member comes on set, no slapstick. Just brilliant writing.

Sort of slipped under the radar at the ti the acting was marvellous, I particulary liked Kerns mum, what an old witch she was, but so funny
