Ipod 5th generation help

My daughter has a new one of these. We have managed to sync all of the tracks from her previous Ipod onto the new one ok, but we then tried to add some new cd's, which went to the Ipod library ok but we could not sync them to the Ipod. It went through the process but kept saying waiting for changes to be applied and then stopping without moving the cd's to the Ipod.
Can anyone help please?
