Leo Ulloa is wheeled away on Tuesday
Leo Ulloa has told fans his foot injury has come “at the worst time” but vowed to return as soon as possible The Argus understands Ulloa has suffered a fracture in his left foot and is facing a two-month absence.
An update on the striker’s condition is expected from Albion today but his injury is a massive blow for head coach Oscar Garcia.
Ulloa was stretchered off in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, his first game since returning from a three-match suspension.
He yesterday told fans via Facebook that he would work hard in his recovery.
Ulloa wrote in both Spanish and English: “A shame this injury. It comes at the worst time. Now, I have to work hard to be with the team as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for your support messages!”
Ulloa’s absence will increase Oscar’s urgency to bring in a striker.
Albion indicated they had a potential loan forward lined up just before the window opened last month and have been interested in Spurs prospect Jonathan Obika.
Oscar said after the draw with Wednesday: “The club knows what we need from the start but now we have Ashley Barnes. We have to trust him that he can score goals.
“He scored goals in pre-season and he’s fit enough to help us.”
Albion are preparing to take on a Nottingham Forest side keen to boost their attacking options by signing highly-rated Wolves winger Bakary Sako, who scored against the Seagulls last season, on an initial 93-day loan.
