Gus to Derby?

:jester:

Another top-ten longest serving manager gone then, isn't it?

Derby will certainly have Gus on a shortlist if he applies for the vacancy.

Never will understand that. Yes they lost to their local rivals but Derby have been a solid champ side for many seasons now and are probably at the right level.

They're only two places below us, it's not like they've had a particularly bad start. Must be more to it than the results?

Odd. They haven't started too badly.

And on the day they went to Forest too. Brian will be shaking, rolling around in his grave.

Club Statement via the BBC

Some collateral damage from the Championship's early game - as Derby County have this evening announced that they have parted company with manager Nigel Clough with immediate effect.

Clough has been in charge at the Rams since January 2009 but goes after the 1-0 defeat at rivals Nottingham Forest earlier today.

A club statement said: "The board feel it is time to move Derby County forward to the next level, which will necessitate a comprehensive review of the club's football operations.

"The ownership group remain steadfastly committed to the club and maintain their desire to compete at the top end of the Championship this season."

Derby also tick the two boxes needed on any club statement of this type: They "place on record their thanks" and "take this opportunity to wish Nigel Clough well for the future."

Textbook.

Probably something happening in the back ground because it cant be down to results or performances this season. He will soon be appointed by another club and some chairman will be looking at the news thinking I wonder if we could get him if we sacked our manager, like Sheff Utd?

Blimey. I honestly didn't see that one coming today - even after they lost (narrowly) away at their arch-rivals. Who the Hell do the owners think they're going to get in there who can do a better than young Nigel, particularly whilst presumably still working on a comparatively meagre budget? Bonkers.

Agree he will soon be appointed elsewhere but don't understimate the stupidity of chairmen these days.
