Swear like a trouper

I'm not a very nice person wnen I don't get what I want.
My mum used to wash my mouth out with soap but I still used to swear like a trouper so I don't know what all that was about.
Anyway.

I think it's swear like a trooper rather than trouper. Soldiers are renowned for bad language - as Shakespeare said "full of strange oaths"; actors aren't generally known for being potty-mouthed (although I've met a few who are :lolol:)

I've always been a bit confused by this addage. Is it 'trooper', as in soldier, or as the OP hints at, 'trouper', as in artiste, such as actors etc?
