There are a lot of hard up families that will appreciate this. Will pay for the mobile phone bill of the five year old.

Well, you can always refuse the payment or give it to charity...

Not if you are a 1 parent family, not married, separated, divorced, single, higher rate married you cant.

In Luxembourg you get about 400eur a month EACH off tax if you earn 45,000 eur which anyone would with at least 3 years work experience

So as long as you don't earn much and get married, you get a bonus cheque from the people who do earn a lot and don't get married.

Seems fair.

I don't see why married/civil partner couples should qualify for any tax breaks.

Why an earth should someone pay less tax just because they are married?

Because there is a legal contract between the couple making them a partnership - as such it seems reasonable that their joint income should be treated as just that, a joint income and that their joint tax allowances should be set against that joint income.

So unmarried people each get £100 off a year rather than £200?

Seems fair.

But that bonus cheque is also from lower paid 1 parent families, lower paid not marrieds, lower paid separateds, lower paid divorcees and lower paid singles.

Still fair?

I read it as both can earn but only up to basic rate tax threshold?

yes. i should have put "married full time wage earners, or part time earners where the total earnings are less than the basic tax alloawance". seemed a bit of a mouthfull.

You can tell the election is nearing, parties are coming out with morally unjustifiable interventions aimed at benefiting the median voter.
