What music do you remember listening to the year you left school ?

It was a shit year for music, but Destiny's child, Christina Aguilera and Coldplay were big. The iPod and iTunes were released int this year, but hardly anyone had one at this time, so I opted for an Sony MP3 player. £110 in Argus.

Happy days indeed, House was just exploding and splitting. Exciting times.

I remember our music teacher playing "Oh Well" by Fleetwood Mac and having us all totally embarrassed by closing her eyes and pretend conducting at the beauty of it.

Thieves Like Us 12" - New Order. On repeat whilst revising for A Levels. I passed, amazingly.

Thunderclap Newman's Something in the air is a song I remember liking when it came out but it was played to death and I still can't bear to listen to it all the way though So I've gone for one I still like today, Billy Preston's That's The Way God Planned it

It was 1969 and there were so many fantastic songs and albums around that time but this one stands out. This song was getting massive airplay around the time. Still sounds good today imo but I very rarely hear it on the radio these days. Produced by George Harrison and on the Apple label and with a very Beatles sounding backing, this song possibly features Harrison, Clapton, Keth Richards and Ginger Baker all of whom played on the album of the same name. Whatever happened to the Hammond organ in songs, seldom hear it these days.

Between finishing school and going to University, three of the albums I bought were The first (and to my mind still the best) Roxy Music album, Layla, by Derek and the Dominoes and Eat a Peach by the Allman Brothers band, all of which I still listen to now, albeit on CD.

I listened to a lot of Hip Hop / Trip Hop during that period of my life Quannum MC's, Deltron 3030, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush etc etc.

The Shamen, Jesus Jones, Erasure, Danni Minogue, Altern-8, REM, The Farm, Madonna, Enigma, KLF and Ned's Atomic Dustbin.
