I enjoyed it immensely . It's got me looking forward to the upcoming Northern Soul film which was mentioned. I sincerely hope that it's going to be better than Soul Boy which was released a couple of years back - great soundtrack , cr@p script.

Having come up to Manchester in 69, there was definitely two phases - prior to Wigan Casino and Wigan Casino onwards. Prior to Wigan Casino it was really underground so there is very little film footage of Twisted Wheel, Torch, Mecca, etc, and the music was probably generally to a faster beat, although there were notable favourite slower tunes. Black driving gloves !
Wigan Casino was more publicised in the music and daily press. Andy Peebles heavily plugged it on Manchester Piccadilly's Soul Train (before his Radio1 days), film footage is more readily available (now colour had arrived on TV!). Elitism started to creep in and DJ's upstaging each other. There was one example of a 'white label' record, "Goodbye there's nothing to say" plugged by Peebles that was allegedly by the "Javels" and was changing hands fo a lot of money. Actually it was by a UK session singer on Pye - "Nosmo King" !! freely available.

I was lucky enough to go to an allnighter at the 100 club a couple of years ago where Russ Winstanley was on the decks for most of the night. It was a night to promote the release of his 4 disc "complete introduction to northern soul" box set. Danced my tits off all night!!

I last went to an all-nighters in The 100 Club in about 1989. I think Russ was DJing that night too.
As someone who doesn't do... things to get me through the night, it is quite a test of endurance. But I made it through til dawn.
