Ok the former Olympic staduim has to be used for something, but is WHU taking over the way forward, little distance from Orient if WHU move in. Was not a Highbury option ever on the cards ? Sure Stratford is not swimming in cash like certain parts of London but a quality housing conversion might have improved the area ? :shrug:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24164622

They should be ground sharing (WHU & ORIENT) if wet spam go down and Orient go up they will be in the same division anyway!

West Ham are already only 4 miles away and the move takes them about a mile closer - if West Ham were THAT big a threat to Orient then they would have gone bust a long time ago.

Don't quite see why Orient would want to share a 60,000 seater stadium, it would be completely unsuitable for their needs. They'd have to pay their share for the upkeep and running of the place, which would not be an insignificant amount - and for what ? So Barry Hearn can wine and dine some of his corporate buddies in more prestigeous surroundings, while 4,000 Orient fans rattle their way around inside that cavernous bowl ?

I'm far from convinced its a good move for West Ham. Orient moving in too would be lunacy.

If Orient really wanted the OS they shouldn't have turned their noses up at the originally planned reduced version of it right at the outset. Hearn is a clown and deservedly lost this case.

No.

The theory is that, due to West Ham's increased capacity, they'll be able to reduce tickets prices (kids for £1 every match?) which will make it harder for Orient to attract (new) fans.

It' not necessarily so binary as going bust/surviving. It's about the tens of millions of pounds of taxpayer subsidy going to West Ham at the expense of nearby clubs.

Imagine if your council tax paid was used to buy a new 10,000 seater stadium in Crawley, and that Crawley were a 10 minute drive away.

Their fans, both of em, will be mighty relieved I'm sure. Gets a bit lonely having a stand each.

clearly a better investor than negotiator of stadium deals. he fudged it a couple of times, most recently offering only 500k for matchdays which wasn't enough to cover the running costs (apparently).

is that like the theory that more money from Sky will lower the ticket prices...? i know, its a valid point for the long term, but Orients hardly a powerhouse and already competes with a dozen other London clubs. they're very unlikly to play on the same day due to proximity so i dont think its going to impact Orient nearly as much as he says.

I can't see myself what Orient would do with a 60,000 seat stadium, but I do object to West Ham getting a stadium at a knock down price, with more than half of it paid for by the tax payer. I didn't notice the government offering to pay £40 or £50 million towards the Amex.
So much for FFP!

Same thing happened with Man City inheriting the Eitihad - they avoided the expense of having to construct a massive new state-of-the-art stadium. Some clubs just get lucky.

Don't fret GT! No doubt The Porno Twins will be reimbursing the UK taxpayers using every penny that's accrued from the sale of Upton Park.

So correct...if Orient were a top division club....and they are nearer to the Stadium than West Ham then they would've got the Stadium....why do West Ham want a move....not only do they get the Stadium at a knock down price, what happens to the ground they have now....do they get the profit of that if it is sold for development ?

Ironic that just when Orient are flying high at the top of League One someone comes along and pisses on their chips.

Orient fans are born not made.

They haven't got a hope in hades of luring support away from west ham, Millwall or spuds.
