A simple question but a complex range of things to consider:

Quality of opposition

A plan A with a plan B

How well we defend?

How many chances we are creating?

Confidence

Luck

Coaching input etc

No. We lost our first two games. That surely disqualifies us from calling it 'the best start'.

Conceding two in our first home game against the mighty Derby County..

We've improved recently but still, long way to go before we can think about equaling last years finish.

We were top before the international break the last 2 seasons running.

I think the performances, on average have been better than the last 2 seasons.

Points though, obviously not.

Definitely not but I think it'll be our best finish.

Didn't we fall apart for a while around this time last season?

No...not by a very long way. It was obvious we would get off to a slow start and it was clear that until injuries to key players clear up ( at least October ) we wouldn't know our true potential.
We could still be unbeaten. The first two defeats were a little unlucky and since then, we have rolled our sleeves up and battled for points. I still believe we are some way off the sort of form I expect to see from Oct/Nov onwards.
We will be better than a lot of teams in this division. We were better than Reading and they were closer to full strength.
2011-12...first 6 games...16 pts
2012-13...first 6 games...13 pts
2013-14...first 6 games.....8 pts.

Bit of ground to make up yet.

Positives the way we played against the predicted top two sides and managed no goals against and took 2 decent points.
Negatives again not potent in front of goal and this has cost us against millwall.

Games I have seen - and I am not being one sided.
Leeds should have been a draw
Derby also a draw - although they broke well
Birmingham a win
Burnley a win
Millwall a win - defended very well
Reading a possible win for Reading - although probably a draw and deserved
QPR held on just a draw well fought

13 points for me - although it is what it is with 9.

Look solid and not leaking goals - midfield looks controlled - again as so many say striking (potent in front on goal is the issue) Need to attack in numbers.

Not a bad start considering QPR and Reading.

Think you are being a bit blinkered.

We weren't great against Derby & useless against Millwall. At Reading a point was fair & QPR a draw at best.
8 or 9 points is about right.

Lots of confidence for Saturday.

After the shit sandwich of pre-season I think most of us lowered our expectations and are now just relieved it hasn't all gone tits up. However, the fact we've avoided defeat to Reading and QPR doesn't compare to actually being top of the table

What I was going to say. We've got two very good results and since Ward and Andrews have signed we've looked really good. However I don't see how anyone can say our best start is the one where we're solidly mid-table rather than either of the seasons we were top

Strong at the back but lightweight upfront when Ulloa is missing. We hardly tested Green last night although Barnes did well. We need another striker.

Losing to Derby no longer looks quite as humiliating, considering how well they've started. Losing to Leeds is a sickner and the Millwall draw is a blot on our history but in general it has been a sound start and we've tightened up the defence in the last few weeks. Now to see this attack attack attack philosophy from Oscar come into play.

Clearly not but our rapid improvement and away draws against two of the favoured sides in the Division has certainly brought some confidence back.
