Hello Brighton,

Looking forward to the game on Wednesday, should be a decent one. Hoping a few of you may be able to answer the following questions on your team to help us out with the match previews on QPR site loftforwords.co.uk. We'll be posting the stuff up tomorrow evening so would be great if a few of you could offer opinions over the next 24 hours. Best of luck for the rest of the season after this one....

1 - Can anybody actually shed any light on what happened with Gus Poyet? We need closure damn it...
2 - How do you rate the job he did at Brighton? Not many of his players seemed too sad he was leaving. Did things turn sour towards the end?
3 - Why did the club go for Oscar Garcia, and what did you think of the appointment? How has he done so far?
4 - Tell us about your summer transfer activity? Who came and went, were you particularly sorry to see anybody leave or delighted with one of the new arrivals?
5 - Who are the men to watch in your team and where are the weak links?
6 - Are Brighton capable of launching a promotion push this season? How do you see this campaign going?

Cheers guys....

Nobody really knows about the Gus affair but lots of rumours. I think that you have a better team of ex premier players now than you had last season and had you had them before Christmas wouldnt have been relegated.

Here you go.

Hello Brighton,

1 - Can anybody actually shed any light on what happened with Gus Poyet? We need closure damn it...

I think you will get differing opinions on what happened, but in reality we know only very little. If he takes the club to court, then all should be revealed. Apart from that it all very muddled and as Gus would say eeess complicated.

2 - How do you rate the job he did at Brighton? Not many of his players seemed too sad he was leaving. Did things turn sour towards the end?

He did fantastically really, taking a very poor relegation threatened side to one on the brink of the Premier League and 24th best team in England playing the best football I have ever seen us play. When is was good, it was very good, but when It was bad, well you saw how bad it got in the Play off game.

3 - Why did the club go for Oscar Garcia, and what did you think of the appointment? How has he done so far?

He definitely has the same school of thought as Poyet but with more attacking flair to keep the ball and create chances. He has done well in circumstances very difficult after what happened last season, with a steady start and the football improving i'm rather optimistic.
4 - Tell us about your summer transfer activity? Who came and went, were you particularly sorry to see anybody leave or delighted with one of the new arrivals?

Losing Wayne Bridge was a massive blow, but Stephan Ward has been a more than suitable replacement. He was also a decent gentleman off the pitch, shown on Sunday when he came over and clapped our fans. Also to see Vicente leave with a parting blow to Poyet was a shame, it's a shame he couldn't play more as it was unbelievable to watch him play. e saw off bids from our best players from a club up the road. Ulloa and Bridcutt that is - who will be missing against you, they seriously impress me everytime I watch us play even more. Bridcutt is outstanding and I'm very glad we kept hold of him.

5 - Who are the men to watch in your team and where are the weak links?
Currently with Ulloa being sent off we have one half fit striker - Barnes , who is very marmite with our fans. So for the visit to Loftus Road that is our weakest area by far.The man to watch was Ulloa but he's of course now not available. You are playing us a perfect time.

6 - Are Brighton capable of launching a promotion push this season? How do you see this campaign going?

I would be happy with a top 10 finish, we are still getting over with what might have been from last season. This campaign I can see some highs but mostly consolidation.

Poyet among other issues refused to deal with the retained list which was his responsibility. He also told the players (allegedly) in training the day after the 2nd leg with Palace that he was probably leaving. Poyet was held in very high regard by 99% of Brighton fans until his comments directly after the palace play off 2nd leg when rather than praising the players for their efforts throughout the season he decided to choose that moment to say that he had maybe 'hit the ceiling' at Brighton so basically saying to interested clubs 'come and get me'

Regarding OG I think Bloom was extremely impressed with his record at Barcelona B and youth level and saw his management style as one that would suit the clubs playing style and ethos. I would say that OG has made a solid start to his tenure as Brighton manager, bearing in mind he has been without our star player all season (Liam Bridcutt) as well as injuries to other key players such as Andrea Orlandi and Craig Mackail-Smith. I think it's fair to say that with a fully fit squad at his disposal OG would expect to finish top 8 this season.

Wayne Bridge was superb for us last season and it was a blow losing him to Reading's parachute payments but Stephen Ward looks a solid enough replacement. The key issue was the retention of Bridcutt and Ulloa, whilst Craig Conway looks an exciting acquisition on loan from Cardiff City.

On his day Will Buckley is a world beater but unfortunately he is plagued with inconsistency, Ashley Barnes may feel he has a point to prove to the manager as he gets his chance at the expense of the suspended Ulloa. Inigo Calderon is susceptible to pace down the left side so if you have a speedy winger you may get success down that channel.

As alluded to before, once our injury problems improve and with a fair wind we may scrape into the top six but realistically top ten is where we would expect to finish.

And Gus did a fantastic job, but it did get very boring him whoring himself every time another job came up.

He also picked the wrong team in our biggest game for years and got the tactics horribly wrong, despite having stuffed Palace only a few weeks before.

Oh, and he wasn't sacked live on TV.

1 - There are many rumours but no-one seems to really know. The gist is a fairly rapid breakdown in the relationship between Bloom and Poyet, culminating in the play-off loss (and GP's post match comments) which caused it all to come to a head.

2 - Regardless of how it ended, Poyet did a fantastic job. He took us from the relegation zone in League 1 to 90 minutes from the Premier League in 3.5 years. That speaks for itself. I wish it had ended differently, as I'd always assumed a Prem team would poach him, and he'd go on good terms, but it wasn't to be.

3 - Garcia is very much from the same school of thought as Poyet, preferring possession football. He's young, he's got great pedigree from his playing career and already has silverware on his CV as a manager. His project is very much embryonic at the moment, we've played pretty well in every game but got some rotten luck and some terrible refereeing decisions, all the time whilst half our squad is out injured. The early signs are very promising, but I won't start to judge until after January when he's had a whole window to put his own stamp on the squad.

4 - In:
- Kemy Agustien from Swansea & Keith Andrews on loan from Bolton to add some physicality to the midfield, which we maybe lacked last season;
- Stephen Ward on loan from Wolves who has looked very solid so far at left back, and his understudy is Adam Chicksen, a youngster signed from MK Dons;
- Matt Upson signed permanently after his loan spell last season and is an absolute rock in our defence;
- Craig Conway, a winger on loan from Cardiff.
Out:
Only a couple of players left, Gary Dicker who was part of our League 1 Championship winning side, and Vicente who was a bit of an enigma, a hugely exciting player on his day, but often injured.

5 - I'd have said Ulloa was our main danger man but after his red card against Reading you won't have to worry about him! LuaLua and Buckley on the wings are both very rapid but inconsistent, when on fire they can tear apart any team, on a poor day they can be very frustrating. David Lopez is our set piece specialist and his delivery causes problems. Our weakness is on the break, we do tend to commit more players forward under Garcia than under Poyet, and if QPR can soak up our pressure and hit us on the break, that's the most likely way we'll concede, as generally with Upson & Greer we're pretty solid from set pieces.

6 - I think a huge amount depends on how far behind we are come January. Our team has changed very little since last season and was good enough to finish fourth, so on paper we should be top half at least. We're struggling at the moment with a lot of injuries so if we can scrape some results until the squad is fully fit and be there or thereabouts by October/November-ish, maybe we'll push for playoffs again. My gut feeling is we'll fall short and finish about 8th/9th, but for me that will be an acceptable return for Garcia's first season, and will serve as a platform to push again the next season.

Hello Brighton,

1 - Can anybody actually shed any light on what happened with Gus Poyet? We need closure damn it...

Is a few things that could have happened but i think Bloom got fed up of all the negative comments Poyet made about brighton eg not giving non stop transfer funds even though Bloom had spent 140 million on the stadium and transfer fees and wages upped from league one, in a couple of seasons.
He always talked about other teams eg Tottenham, Leeds and Espanaol i think it was and said he loved these clubs and how never stop players going onto bigger clubs, yes these bigger clubs but you dont want your manager going on about other teams non stop and all negative things he always said he had to be his way or the high way and Bloom and board got fed of it and snapped, we dont know the full reason why got fired but both sides vs eachother was never going to be a nice ending as bloom is poker player and willing to hold his ground.

2 - How do you rate the job he did at Brighton? Not many of his players seemed too sad he was leaving. Did things turn sour towards the end?

He did a good job at us and changed our style of play and made us a lot more postive in playing style but i think he took us as far as he could as he was too slow tempo, had no plan b if didnt work and when we scored he used to go sit back deep and let teams come at, eg why we drew so many games.

3 - Why did the club go for Oscar Garcia, and what did you think of the appointment? How has he done so far?

Oscar is a quieter guy and someone who likes to play the same football as Poyet so keeps to the old Poyet style which worked and the style of players have at the club, so made sense, he is very highly rated ex barcelona player and won israel league last year and also is appointed as head coach and is more willing to do this as most managers want to buy own men and be totally in charge and some reason brighton this season going the spainish way of buying.
I think he comes across very well and with all our injuries to top players he is doing well and seems to have the players happy, so far so good but not had the best of luck so far either.

4 - Tell us about your summer transfer activity? Who came and went, were you particularly sorry to see anybody leave or delighted with one of the new arrivals?

Augustin from swansea not fit yet but played a handfull of games in premiership last year a box to box midfielder.
Andrews from bolton a premiership experienced player who knows this league
Chickson one of mk dons best players last year a real one for the future.
Ince from Chelsea one for future but been thrown in due to injuries and looks like Vieria but is clumsy on the ball which doesnt suit out style but at times looks a good player for us, defo one to keep giving game time 2 and see how develops.
Conway from cardiff yet to play for us but very highly rated in cardiff and sad he has left.
Ward from wolves a good player who can play left back or any other positon in midfield or even forward.
Upson a good signing as did well on loan last year and is again solid so far.

Lost bridge very sad about as was exceptional last year but the wages he wanted was stupid and was better to get other players in with this money instead so made sense to lose, other players really miss Vicente yes was injury prone but when played is NO BETTER in this leaugue, Dicker and Painter both decent players but not upto the level we need anymore.

5 - Who are the men to watch in your team and where are the weak links?

Would have said Ulloa who is a man beast and is exceptional and we will miss no doubt, but we also will miss Bridcutt who is our player of year last season, Orlandi is a big miss as skilfull and can chip in with goals and assists, Mackail smth is a goalscorer but injuried as is Hoskins who is very talented but injury prone player, Bruno is class but properly still be injuried.
Our best players this year properly Our defence in Upson and Greer been solid, Crofts had a good season after a disappointing season last year, Andrews started well, our weakness is up front with only barnes as forward and he isnt even match fit, with only youth team player barker available after this is a big weakness for us, but our side is solid now even with 5 key players out injuried.

6 - Are Brighton capable of launching a promotion push this season? How do you see this campaign going?

Yes we will push for promotion again as showed with players now can match all teams played so far and we will get better as these new signings get fitter and get used to our style of passing football and get all our main players back, this is a really good time to play us as no where near our best, in playing, fitness and players available.

1 - Can anybody actually shed any light on what happened with Gus Poyet? We need closure damn it...

No-one outside the club has seen the charge sheet so therefore No-one knows. Some people think they might know what the reasons may or may not be, but that is pure speculation.

2 - How do you rate the job he did at Brighton? Not many of his players seemed too sad he was leaving. Did things turn sour towards the end?

Outstanding. Changed the way we approach football. Won a strong division at a canter. Took us to our highest league finish for 30 years. Not sure what you mean by 'not many of his players seemed too sad...' Only one spoke up against him, while one spoke up in favour of him - and both were leaving. The sourness stems from his post-match comments after the Palace game, which some people judge his tenture by. There is a school of thought that says he mentioned managing other clubs at every turn, but the fact is - interviewers kept asking him about other clubs, and he wasn't cute enough to give a diplomatic answer. He gave over-honest answers, which upset many.

3 - Why did the club go for Oscar Garcia, and what did you think of the appointment? How has he done so far?

Evolution, not revolution. Similar playing philosophy to Gus. Excellent appointment in terms of potential, but can't judge properly after six games.

4 - Tell us about your summer transfer activity? Who came and went, were you particularly sorry to see anybody leave or delighted with one of the new arrivals?

Keith Andrews is probably the pick of the bunch so far in a fairly quiet summer. Getting Upson in as our own rather than on loan was a good bit of business too. Shame we couldn't keep Wayne Bridge.

5 - Who are the men to watch in your team and where are the weak links?

Normally Ulloa. But you can't see him on Wednesday. Bridcutt has been our Player of the Season for the past two seasons, which says a lot. But you probably won't see him either. Weak links... um - Kuczak's distribution can be a bit sloppy.

6 - Are Brighton capable of launching a promotion push this season? How do you see this campaign going?

We're capable of launching a promotion push. Can't see the campaign being quite as intense as last season as the squad hasn't been strengthened fully yet.

Cheers guys....

1 - Can anybody actually shed any light on what happened with Gus Poyet? We need closure damn it...No one knows, but it may all come out if there is a court case for unfair dismissal
2 - How do you rate the job he did at Brighton? Very good. Probably the best football we've ever played, but he had been backed financially better than any previous managerNot many of his players seemed too sad he was leaving. That's not right. The ones we've heard from (Vicente excepted) all said he was a good manager Did things turn sour towards the end? Possibly with the board, but not the players
3 - Why did the club go for Oscar Garcia, and what did you think of the appointment? He looked a good fit to carry on the job Poyet started How has he done so far?A slowish start whilst the players get used to his methods, but we're getting there now
4 - Tell us about your summer transfer activity?Out went some of the dead wood, and a couple of walking wounded Who came and went,The main ones to leave were the perma-injured Vicente and midfielder Gary Dicker and loanee Wayne Bridge were you particularly sorry to see anybody leave or delighted with one of the new arrivals?Sorry to see Bridge go, he's probably capable of playing top half Prem, but we've replaced him with Ward who has been pretty sound. We've also signed Upson permanently which is good, Keith Andrews on loan from Bolton who is almost certainly better than what they've replaced him with and Agustien who I'm not sure about yet. The main thing was that we kept nearly all of the players who performed so well last year and have added a bit more experience.
5 - Who are the men to watch in your team and where are the weak links? The spine of the team is strong, Kuszczak-Upson-Bridcutt-Ulloa. The weak link seems to be a lack of forwards due to injuries (and now suspension)
6 - Are Brighton capable of launching a promotion push this season?Yes How do you see this campaign going?Slow start, gradual improvement, strong finish....playoffs a possibility

Cheers guys....

1 - Can anybody actually shed any light on what happened with Gus Poyet? We need closure damn it...

A falling out between Gus and the chairman. Speculation that its about things like Gus' public pronouncements on budget and managing other clubs, but I sure hope our chairman is more mature than that. Possibly because Gus lost some control over transfer policy to the director of football? who knows. I imagine that the board expected Gus to leave at some point this season so decided to push him before he jumped. The manner of the suspension and discplinary action was weird though and disrespectful to a great manager IMHO

2 - How do you rate the job he did at Brighton? Not many of his players seemed too sad he was leaving. Did things turn sour towards the end?

Best I've ever known. Probably our second best ever. Fantastic job, done in just the right way: shore up the defence, add some flair, change the style to a passing game - which led to us tearing L1 a new one and settling straight in to the top half of the championship.

Most players didn't say anything when he left, understandable really, but departed players such as Gary Dicker, Wayne Bridge, Elliott Bennett all gave him the highest praise, whereas Vicente slagged him off.

Poyet was a god right up to the hour mark in his very last game in charge, and then things suddenly turned sour when Palace scored. Everyone was emotional, words were said, the break-up inevitable

3 - Why did the club go for Oscar Garcia, and what did you think of the appointment? How has he done so far?

Most of us had never heard of him I imagine, seemed very inexperienced albeit with some tantalising titbits on his CV. I think he's one of those young managers very highly regarded within the game but little known at large. So far he's just getting to know the squad, trying out different combinations.

4 - Tell us about your summer transfer activity? Who came and went, were you particularly sorry to see anybody leave or delighted with one of the new arrivals?

No marquee signings, but many expected Bridcutt to be sold and he's still here, so on the whole not bad.

5 - Who are the men to watch in your team and where are the weak links?

Strength is in centre defence and centre midfield, much of the flair is injured or off-form at present so look out for Kazenga Lua Lua who can be special on his day. Also expect to see a debut from on-loan Cardiff winger Craig Conway.

6 - Are Brighton capable of launching a promotion push this season? How do you see this campaign going?

I expect a mid-table season, but perhaps a second-half push isn't out of the question especially if he doesn't try and change too much. Ulloa is key.

Cheers guys....

cheers

It is quite possible that Gus realised we needed a number of signings to keep us up if we were promoted and when he was made aware there was little more to add to the cash from the league he then saw that his managerial record could be spoilt so decided to drop strong hints that he was available.

Really appreciate all the feedback guys. There will be a piece online later which will be a mix of these answers and a bit on Garcia that our Spanish contributor has done for us. I'll be back with a link when it's up.

On Zamora, if you like him that much most QPR fans would happily drive him down to Brighton and hand him over for nothing. Picked up a hip injury last season which they say would rule him out for a year if operated on, and as he only has a year left on his deal he's playing through it. It's rendered him even more useless than he was before, which rather brings into question the logic of the whole thing. Current boo-boy target because he's just physically incapable of contributing anything to our team at the moment. Why Redknapp continues to select him is puzzling most of us.

That simply doesn't make any sense. If Albion had been promoted, the massive increase in revenue would ensure there would be a sizeable increase in the playing budget.

Yep please post the link.

I must admit I am surprised that with Zamoras injury he is still being viewed high in the pecking order. I can see where he would be useful coming on as a sub in the last 20 mins, but to start the match is a different matter especially with the spending power QPR have got.

With regard to Poyet, one thing which we all know he did do was send an angry email to all BHAFC staff, at every level of the club which leaked out into the media.

Interesting read Clive until you get to the Miguel Ortiz quotes plus 5th paragraph down is way off the mark. Lets hope its a good game tonight, QPR are definitely playing us at the right time with the amount of injuries we have this said we still have the quality to beat anyone in this league & most of all players who want to play for the badge and will want this win tonight to get are season moving.
