Just got a 1962 hit by Pat Boone "Speedy Gonzales", played on a radio show,

The last line is "Hey Conchita, you can get gren stamps with tequila!" To those under about 50, "Gren (Shield) stamps" were issued by shops as an incentive, youy had to stick them in little books then take them along to the "Gren Shield Stamp Shop" and surrender a certain number for a gift.

There was a rival, S & H Pink stamps. Both companies stemmed from the USA of course. I remember licking the stamps before we put them in the boks, the gum they used was yukky. I think the idea died about 1970. All I can remember us getting was a prety cheapo weighing machine for the bathroom.

What obscure lyrics take you back to YOUR childhood?

He flits from shop to shop just like a butterfly.
In matters of the cloth he is as fickle as can be,
Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.

Quite. Talking about a Carnabetian Army.

Carnaby Street is... well, not what it was.

Kings Road, the Chelsea Drugstore and Carnaby Street were "Right On" in those days

Never wait or hesitate, get in kid before its too late, you may never get a second chance.
Youth's a mask and it don't last, so live it long and live it fast.

I love these words, so true and applicable to so many situations ....
Little test: can anyone remember the song & artist?

They were familiar but I had to Google them, I'll let someone who knows them without doing that to name them

What obscure lyrics take you back to YOUR childhood?
This was a question that was answered by the legendary rock icon, Arthur Brown, on Radio Four the other week. Bizarrely, he remembered one particular record from his childhood, which struck a chord with me, because my folks owned it and played it regularly, as a seven inch, 78rpm disc.

If you go down in the woods today you're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today you'd better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain
Because today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic

God, I'm old.

On white horses let me ride away
To my world of dreams so far away
Let me run
To the sun

To a world my heart can understand
It's a gentle warm and wonderland
Far away
Stars away

Where the clouds are made of candyfloss
As the day is born
When the stars are gone
We'll race to meet the dawn

So when I can only see the grey
Of a sad and very lonely day
That's when I
Softly sigh
On white horses
Snowy white horses
Let me ride away

I always flirt with death,
I look I'll but I don't care about it,
I can face your threats,
And stand up straight and tall and shout about it...

Unfortunately I can remember trudging up St. James Street to take the Green Shield Stamp books into the shop - took an age to fill them and the gifts were crap.
