Danny Bloor has called on fans to celebrate tomorrow’s Non-League Day by making their way to the Dripping Pan to cheer on the Rooks against the Metropolitan Police.
Lewes are still unbeaten this season after a late equaliser from Jack Dixon against Hendon on Saturday.
Bloor and Garry Wilson’s side are sitting in eighth in the Ryman Premier after three straight draws.
And the Rooks assistant manager said: “We have got a block of three games coming up: two games at home – this Saturday (to Met Police, 3pm) and Tuesday (Carshalton Athletic, 7.45pm) and then the FA Cup tie with Peacehaven on Saturday week (September 14, 3pm, at Piddinghoe Avenue).
“They’re all big games and we’re looking forward to it.”
Tomorrow is Non-League Day – an annual event which celebrates semi-pro and grassroots football in England.
It takes place on a day when Non-League football is not overshadowed by the so-called big boys of English soccer.
And Bloor called on occasional fans to make their way to Mountfield Road for the game. He said: “There’s no Championship or Premier League football so it will be nice if people can get down to the Dripping Pan.
“The people who come down for every home game give us absolutely fantastic support but any extra fans who can come along are always welcome.”
Of Saturday’s draw against Hendon (see inside for match report) he said: “It was a tough game, Hendon is never an easy place to go to.
“We obviously would have liked to have won but to come from behind to get a point is a good result.”
Bloor had words of praise for Dixon who has now scored four goals from midfield.
“We felt he’d weigh in with a few but that many goals in seven games is excellent.”
Bloor said the reason the Rooks were getting so many goals from midfield was “just the way we set the team up” but he added “it doesn’t really matter who scores them just as long as we get the goals.”
Bloor went on: “It was the first time we’ve been behind in a game this season.
“The players didn’t panic. They’ve got a never say die attitude and kept going till the end.”
Tom Vickers is available for selection for the first time tomorrow following his lengthy suspension picked up last season while still at Hastings United. He is unlikely to find a place in the starting line-up and such is the strength of the Lewes squad at the moment he will find himself contending for a place on the bench.
The only player unavailable for selection tomorrow is Dan Smith (ankle injury).
Our other local football sides who are at home for Non-League Day tomorrow are Saltdean United, who host Southwick in the FA Vase, and Ringmer, who entertain Rye United in Sussex County League Division 1.
