Brentford scored a controversial 97th-minute equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw against Albion’s under-18s.
Simon Rusk’s team were left lamenting the referee’s decision to play a substantial amount of injury time as the Bees completed a fightback from 2-0 down in dramatic fashion.
Two goals in ten minutes put the Seagulls in control and Charlie Harris opened the scoring with a long-range strike that found its way under the goalkeeper Joe Taylor in the 19th minute.
Albion extended their lead when Matt Benham swung a cross in from the right that Taylor failed to deal with, and Robin Deen was on hand to fire home the loose ball.
A classy finish from Kojo Awotwi reduced the deficit on the stroke of half time and both sides had chances to add to their tallies in the second half.
Will Collar, Charlie Harris and Deen all came close for Albion and Christian Walton had to be on hand to deny the hosts, but it was Jason Davis who was closest to the net; seeing his effort tipped onto the bar.
However, a free-kick midway in the Albion half caused chaos in the box and eventually the ball was stabbed home by Bradley Clayton to cruelly deny Rusk and his young charges the three points.
Albion: Walton; Davis, Horncastle, Barclay, Maguire-Drew; Collar, Benham, Pring (Wilshere 54); Muitt, Deen, Harris.
Subs not used: Wray, Lall, Courtney.
