Participants from AITC's recent Homeless FA Training Centre will be at the Amex tomorrow to tell fans about their experience of playing football for their country.Joe Lidster and Nicole Webley, both from Brighton, were last at the stadium in May with 30 other young people from homeless backgrounds to take part in the four week football and education programme. The training centre was one of nine which ran at professional clubs across the country.Nicole Webley
After completing the programme and gaining qualifications in sports leadership, both were selected to play for Team England at international homeless football tournaments this season. Nicole, 18, has just returned from Poland where she captained the England women's team in the Homeless World Cup.
Nicole told AITC's Joel Essex, “It was an amazing experience and one that I never expected to have. We all came together and bonded as a team and to be captain was incredible. But it wasn’t just about the football. Getting to meet people from other countries was probably the highlight of it all.”***
AITC's Jacob Naish added, "This is a fantastic programme and we are proud of everyone who took part it in. It is not really about finding the best footballers. It is about giving people a positive experience that can help them on the next stage of their journey out of homelessness.”
Jacob Naish, Nicole Webley and Joe Lidster will be interviewed* pitch side at 2:30pm before tomorrow's game and supporters can read more about Nicole, Joe and the Homeless FA project in tomorrow's edition of Seagull.
