"Brighton have offered striker Ashley Barnes a new contract to ward off interest from other clubs, Sky Sports understands.
The forward has entered the final year of his contract at the Amex Stadium, and has been subject to reported interest from both Norwich and Hull.
It now seems that Brighton will do all they can to keep the striker, offering a new deal.
Barnes has scored 41 league goals since arriving at Brighton from Plymouth Argyle in 2010, and in 2011/12 he was the club's top scorer with 14 goals in all competitions.
The 23-year-old was the subject of controversy last season when he shown a red card for trying to trip up a referee during the latter stages of a match against Bolton. Barnes was given a seven-match suspension for the incident."

Heard a whisper his head might have been turned by interest from north of the border ???

Really hope he stays with us though.

Don't really think this means much. If he is out of contract at the end of the season, we are just making sure he doesn't leave for nothing. Good business sense really. Doesn't mean he isn't off in the next week, just means we are insuring our assets.

He wouldn't leave on a free at the end of the season, unless we decided against offering a new deal equal to or better terms than his current deal.

You can but hope.

A far cry from the end of last season when the majority on here wanted him to Foxtrot Oscar.

Good news, and I hope he signs it.
