Finally something we should sympathise with Palace over:-

One day I'll find a table or graph that doesn't have those 6 teams at the top.

How much have Forest received from their "sponsor" for shirt advertising?

According to post number 618225 in this thread from a Forest forum - What if we infringe FFP? - it is a one-year deal for £12 million. (I have no idea if this is true). But if it is, it is larger than all but the 6 most expensive deals in the Premier League. Absolutely no suggestion there then that the Forest owner is trying to flout FFP.

Pork pie land.
I really don't see what your point is here?

The big, and currently successful English club's shirts are worn by all sorts of kids all around the world, and especially in the middle and far east. Companies get good value in paying to advertise on those shirts.

How many will be wanting Palarse shirts compared to Manure or Chelsea?

Forest is a little different, but their owner is trying to make them a team that sell shirts in his country in the same way. Still no justification for such a big deal right now though, other than to get around FFP. As always, there are people who will bend any rules. This is why FFP and salary caps can never work.

Says it all about the prem though, even the likes of Norwich, Southampton, swansea, Palace have deals that are way bigger than those in the championship.... Sad really

Yes, clearly you're right, that's the nature of sponsorship.

But they are all still 'competing' in the same league, anyone entering that league is already 100's of millions behind in the arms race, hence it being a almost a poisoned challis right from day one.

The big 6, with their billions of pounds of debt, can't pull the ladder up fast enough from the others, I'm alright jack.

In order to get even the shakiest foothold The Albion (Palace) will have to bring in so much money from sponsors and fans, that it hardly seems worth it.

I know for a fact that one of those top six deals is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what is stated. Agree with the overall point though that its obscene.

Reading that I think it would be fair to assume it's between 500k and a million.

Also PB had better have included a massive promotion boost into the contract, it seems lacking from the other recently promoted clubs.

Plus £20m/year from AON for sponsorship of their training ground and kit. Disgusting really.

I don't see the problem. The premier league, and Man U in particular, will be seen by millions globally every week. Major sponsors are going to be prepared to pay big money to get sort of coverage; why should Man U undersell themselves? I wouldn't be surprised if our deal with Amex is one of the biggest in the Championship based on us having the biggest home gates by a fair margin.

Yeah you're quite right, as said that's what sponsorship is all about.

Right up until the point when you're asked to compete with them.
Because it's not just shirts and training ground.
Chances are the Old Trafford dug-outs, and all things in between, are generating more money than Palace's shirts.

Remind though, how much debt is Utd in?

Ok Arsenal have got there on a budget, by virtue of the appalling way the other Premier League clubs have been run and the Champions League.
But that has come at a cost, £1,200 seasons tickets, to name one.

I'm not sure how the debt with Man Utd works, but isn't it the case that they are a very profitable club and are not going to fall foul of FFP. My understanding was that the company that owns Man Utd FC is the one that carries the debt, which is serviced by the millions that Man Utd make each year. I've never really got my head around it to be honest.

Man Utd WERE a profitable club, the Glazers then borrowed the money to buy the club and saddled the club with the debt, which is serviced by the revenues generated by the club.

As Forest, well they have totally exploited a massive loophole in the FFP calculations and you can't really blame them for doing it.

So are bank loan repayments counted against profit as far as FFP is concerned?

As for Forest's ridiculous 1 year sponsorship deal, this will surely come under the 'fair value' assessment rule relating to sponsorship from businesses associated with the owners. It will be interesting to see whether or not this is challenged and, I imagine, be an important precedent.

We could do with some educated El Pres input into this really. That's if he has time to log onto NSC in between banging his new missis and persuading her to let him keep his porn stash.

The Utd debt is way beyond my understanding.

You have to wonder how long such an inferior and predictable business (top flight football, across Europe) can generate such obscene amounts of money.

Everybody knows the emperor has no clothes on, but nobody is prepared to say it.
