ALBION head coach Oscar Garcia is expecting more goals from matchwinner Andrew Crofts.
The Welsh international midfielder’s second-half strike at Birmingham earned the Seagulls their first Championship points of the season and Spaniard Oscar his first result in English football.
Crofts scored five league goals in his first season-long stint with Albion and eight at Norwich, but he had not struck for the Seagulls since March 2010 after drawing a blank on his injury-hit return to the club last season. Oscar said: “We have to expect more goals from the midfielders, not only for the striker (Leo Ulloa) or the forward players.
“We want the midfielders to also arrive in the box and we have some players with this quality and with this ability.”
Crofts’ clincher capped a good week for the former Gillingham servant on his return to the starting line-up following a late recall to the Wales squad and substitute appearance against the Republic of Ireland.
Oscar believes he can be a role model for prospects like Jake Forster-Caskey and Rohan Ince, who were both brought on in the second half against Birmingham.
Oscar said: “I am happy for him, because he is working hard whether he plays or doesn’t play.
“He is an international, an experienced player who played in the Premier League. This kind of player helps the young players to develop.”
