Yes - a lucky escape. Konchesky is overrated.

I think we have at least as a good a deal in Ward who is more attack minded and knows where the goal is, like Wayne Bridge.

Konchesky can **** off as far as I am concerned. More likely we didn't value him as highly as he appears to rate himself. Some footballers really need a reality check.

Konchesky joined Leicester from Liverpool for a reported fee of B£1.5million in July 2011. He was signed by former Foxes boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Not a single word of that implies frugal business.

PK must be on a pooh load of cash.

there is a difference between cannot afford and not being prepared to afford.

We seem to have been talking to Wolves for a couple of weeks about the proportion of his wage we would pay (source: his post match interview) and at the same time talking to Leicester, kbowledge of which potential deal might have focussed Wolves' minds.

Every deal that doesnt materialise will now be because "Brighton cant afford it". Maybe true. Maybe just FFP. Maybe we can use the rumours to our advantage.

Konchesky is overrated by anybody who even describes him as average. Awful player on silly money and over 30. Hardly sounds like the type of player an upwardly mobile club should be touching with a barge pole.

Spot on, especially the last point. A couple of years ago we were regarded as a club with plenty of money. Agents/players/other clubs would price accordingly. It may be that our budget has actually gone up a little this year as quoted by the club, but perception is everything.

Good news that he is still draining the Leicester budget really.

Exactly. I would much prefer we had a wage structure in place and moved up gradually than go all in and bust

Im glad we're out where Konchesky and his undoubtedly very high wages are concerned and Im also very glad we didnt take Bridge (as good as he is) at the crazy money Reading are paying him for Championship football. Even four players on around £20k pw would work out at roughly 30% of our entire annual gate receipts.

Time for people to get real in terms of player budget. Plenty of teams have been promoted to the Prem with modest costing squads but decent management.

Playing devils advocate here , if hypothetically Konchesky and Ward are both earning the same high wages and we can only afford to pay a proportion of their salary by agreeing to take them on a season long loan , which one do you go after ?
