Why are they annoyed they get searched unless they have something to hide?? It happens at hundreds if not thousands of grounds around Europe for everyone's safety.

Unless, of course, they are all bring strip/cavity searched as that would probably get a tad tedious!

I suppose you'd like to be consistently stopped and search because the state has no trust in you. Good on them, taking a stand for their civil liberties.

From this response I assume that I have missed something in the story.

Whats the background? I was assuming it was just the normal searches at football grounds? Just a quick pat down to make sure that you have no weapons

The ground is near my house. They lost the match - a shock loss 1-2 to arch rivals Zurich. No one had anything to throw in disgust. So they went for a fondue instead.

To be fair to Basel, they are masters at protesting. Who can forget their tennis ball protest when a game was moved/delayed for the benefit of Roger Federer?

Not "consistently stopped and searched" though is it? It's ONCE every TWO weeks, for about 3-4 seconds, to make sure you're not taking in something to a crowd situation that could do a lot of damage. Seems like bloody common sense to me.

Not sure I'd like it, but I would happily tolerate it if the authorities felt it necessary, which they obviously do in Basel

The same sort of response you get from many when objections are raised about CCTV/identity cards etc but I bet those who say why object if you have nothing to hide have curtains in their windows!
