In the light of the emotive headlines about life sentences for irresponsible dog owners I had a look at the stats for hospital admissions here:
http://www.hscic.gov.uk/catalogue/PUB02570/hosp-epis-stat-admi-ext-caus-10-11-tab.xls
Who were the two admissions for "W58 Bitten or struck by crocodile or alligator" and the two for "X52 Prolonged stay in weightless environment"?
Yes there were 6000 dog bites, somewhat less than the 27,000 assault by bodily force and the 8,000 assault by sharp/blunt object.
Cyclists are twice as likely to be injured in collisions with other cyclists compared to lorries, and twice as likely again to be admitted for collision with a stationary object.
