There was no time for Albion to respond.
Final: Leeds 2 Albion 1

4:55pm
Leeds' more direct approach got its reward deep in added time. A long ball in was headed on by Smith and new boy MURPHY bundled his way through before forcing in a shot which Kuszczak got to but could only help on to the inside of the woodwork before it bounced gently over the line.

4:52pm
Leeds almost grabbed a late winner when Poleon's curler was pawed away by Kuszczak and Green fired the rebound just wide.
The hosts were piling players forward.
But a counter almost undid them in added time as LuaLua crossed and Buckley's header was kept out by Kenny.

4:47pm
Leeds fans implored McCormack to shoot when the ball fell to him just outside the box. His right-foot curler looked on target but appeals for handball as it hit Crofts were waved away.

4:43pm
Matt Smith, a summer signing from Oldham, made his Leeds debut off the bench. The 6ft 6in striker replaced Varney while LuaLua went on for Orlandi.

4:40pm
Leeds made a change at left-back as Drury replaced Warnock.

4:37pm
Green was booked for a foul on 75 minutes as the pace showed no sign of relenting in the sunshine.

4:35pm
Leeds got the wide to Poleon, who tried to trick his way apst Clderon. But the full-back kept concentration an blocked the shot.
The ball was played back in and Agustien's misjudgement - opting to let it run - allowed Tonge to head down to Poleon, whose volley on the turn wth Calderon behind him went wide.

4:30pm
Leeds were flying into tackles now - and their fans responded by raising the volume.

4:27pm
Agustien was adding class to the midfield. He chipped an exquisite pass out to the right for Buckley, who cut inside and teed up Crofts for a shot which Kenny parried low to his right. The keeper*then got across to ensure Calderon could not turn in the rebound from a tight angle.

4:24pm
Buckley was next to come on, replacing Barnes.

4:23pm
Peltier was booked for catching Calderon late.
Agustien's first involvement saw him work a neat one-two in midfield with Bridcutt. But Albion were not posing much threat. *
Then Agustien chipped a nice ball into space on the left for Barnes to chase. But his cross was over-hit.

4:17pm
Albion were in trouble when David Lopez's poor pass for Bridcutt was intereppted. Leeds worked possession to Varney wide on the left and he cut in but dragged his shot into the side-netting.
Then Barnes had a go from 25 yards at the other end but a deflection took pace off the ball and directed it to Kenny.
A weary-looking David Lopez made way for debutant Agustien on 57 minutes.

4:13pm
Albion forced a corner at the other end which David Lopez whipped in from the left but Crofts could not get proper contact on his header and it glanced tamely wide.

4:10pm
Leeds got both their full-backs into good crossing positions in the same attack. Hunt felt he was nudged in the area as he tried to get on the end of the first, then Warnock's low delivery was blocked by Bruno.

4:08pm
Varney got away from Greer to fire in the first cross of the half but it was too deep and Barnes tidied up well on the edge of his own box.

Second half is in progress

3:48pm
The level score at half-time was fair enough.
Half: Leeds 1 Albion 1

3:46pm
Albion's Hispanic contingent almost combined to restore the lead with a bit of route one stuff.
Bruno hurled a long throw into the box, Ulloa competed and the ball eventually reached Calderon, whose full-blooded drive from near the penalty spot was blocked by a defender.

3:43pm
Then Hunt threaded* ball into McCormack in the box and Greer had to get across quickly to nick the ball away from him at the cost of a corner.

3:38pm
Albion had a spell of possession which included a low corner by Orlandi, dummied by Greer at the near post, which Leeds struggled to clear.
But the hosts then went close as Hunt volleyed over feeding off a knock down by Varney.

3:34pm
Varney was the first man in the book as he over-ran the ball and caught Greer on the edge of the Albion area.

3:27pm
As play switched to the other end, Leeds debutant Murphy drew oooohhhsss from the crowd with a 25-yarder past the top corner.

3:26pm
Albion steadied themselves and created room for Calderon to cross from the left. But the ball was headed away.

3:21pm
A deep cross by Tonge reached McCORMACK and he took it down neatly before firing a low drive which Kuszczak touched but could not keep out.

3:19pm
The hosts got in a couple of lofted crosses into the box. Bruno headed away the first and Kuszczak claimed the second.
But a home goal soon arrived.

3:18pm
The strike lowered the volume levels around Elland Road.

3:17pm
Bridcutt brought the ball out from the back and several players were involved in one and two-touch passing before play was worked out to the right, where space had opened for Bruno. The right-back looked up and played the ball low into the box. But it was a pass rather than a cross, right into the path of ULLOA, who rifled a first-time shot right-footed past Kenny beneath the stunned gaze of The Kop.

3:15pm
Leeds were standing off Albion when they had possesion - and they were punsihed in only the 12th minute.

3:08pm
That sequence of events caused some concern among home fans.
But they roared their approval whrn Green was worked into space on the right of the Albion area and helped the ball across goal, leading to two shots which were both blocked.

3:06pm
The visitors also produced the first shot of the game, a left-foot drive by Orlandi from 25 yards as the defence backed off. But Kenny parried it wide as he dived to his left, then punched away Orlandi's inswinging corner which followed.

3:04pm
Albion settled quickly, passing the ball neatly and winning a left-wing corner whch was taken by David Lopez but headed away.

3:01pm
The 2013-14 season is under way.

3:01pm
No change of ends. Albion will play towards the Kop in the first half.
Having said that, there are two noisy home ends here with Albion fans located down the near side.

3:00pm
The pre-game atmosphere is in total contrast to the air of depressed indifference that seemed to float around Elland Road on Albion's two most recent*trips here.

2:57pm
Teams about to come out as we await what looks like being quite a welcome to the Championship for Oscar Garcia.

2:48pm
Applause from home fans as Ankergren's name is read out among the Albion subs.

2:45pm
Leeds appeared to have ditched pans for a midfield diamond after a 1-0 defeat at Walsall a fortnight ago. It looks, though, as if that is how they will go after all today. Hunt and Varney up front we are told with McCormack playing just off them.

2:37pm
Will be interesting to see how Barnes operates in this line-up. Plenty of menace out wide to come off the bench if required.

2:34pm
As Darren Balkham says, it is a warm day here in Yorkshire. Elland Road looking good in the sunshine.

2:20pm
So then, welcome to another season.
It gets earlier and earlier doesn't it?
In fact, as those of you who have read The Argus today will already know, this is Albion's earliest ever start to a new campaign.
Let's see who's ready!
