Tomasz Kuszczak wants Albion to be quick off the mark
TOMASZ Kuszczak has urged Albion to get off to a flyer again in the Championship.
The Seagulls led the table after five games in each of the last two seasons under former boss Gus Poyet, despite losing at Hull on the opening day a year ago.
Oscar Garcia’s side start at Leeds tomorrow and Kuszczak told The Argus: “I hope we can start well on Saturday and try to win the game and collect the points early on, because this is really key for the Championship season.
“If you slip in the beginning it’s difficult to get close to the top. We know that but I’m really optimistic.
“Last year we drew with them here 2-2 and we were in good form when we won there but it’s a difficult place to go, there’s no doubt about that.
“The beginning of the season is important for us. The pitches are good, everyone is really optimistic, prepared.
“It’s very important for the way we play that the pitches are spot-on, because we want to play football, to pass the ball.”
Kuszczak will not be disrupted by international duty after being left out of Poland’s squad for an August 14 friendly at home to Denmark.
Southampton’s Artur Boruc and Wojciech Szczesny of Arsenal have been selected for the game in Gdansk.
Albion confirmed the free transfer of 26-year-old Dutch midfielder Kemy Agustien from Premier League Swansea City yesterday. He will be available to face Leeds but is unlikely to feature in the starting line-up at Elland Road, although Liam Bridcutt is nursing a groin problem. Agustien is playing catch-up with fitness and match sharpness following a 45-minute run-out in the second half of Tuesday night’s 1-1 friendly draw against Norwich at The Amex.
