What's the optimum time for leaving in the teabag when having a single cup?
My wife has accused me of not leaving it in long enough.

Do you give it a final squeeze?

Do you re-use the bag?

3 mins with a little bounce as you fish it out with a spoon. No stirring at all; just let the hot water do its magic. Add enough milk to make it the colour of those flat disc shaped Quality Street toffees.

Maybe it's not about the teabag at all. Perhaps she's trying to tell you something and is just using a teabag analogy.

3-5 minutes of brewing time.

Then I squeeze and bin the tea bag. Never re-use! Add some milk... Not too much and not too little. NO SUGAR!!!

More importantly, when making tea with a tea bag in a cup are you a milk first or water first type of person?
Me, milk first then leave it to brew for around a minute and a half.

That's where I'm going wrong, too much stirring and squeezing.

MILK FIRST!!!??

People who put milk in first should be shot.

An infusion is made when 'boiling hot water' reacts with the tea leaves. Putting milk in first immediately cools the water thus making it less effective in infusing the drink.

Redbush needs a bit longer than normal tea, need to those settle for a while.

usually 30 sec, with a bit of stiring to aggitate and circulate. i know a minute or two is ideal but after 30 secs its diminishing returns and i'm impatient. 3min? only if using a teapot.

pouring in the water from on high to slosh the water and introduce some air is beneficial.

Same as, unlike the Neanderthals who do it the wrong way around :)

When I give the wife one, I just pop it in, move it about for a few seconds and then take the old bag out afterwards

get your wife to make her own tea if she is not happy!
Depends on what make of teabags you use for the time in the cup, 1 min for PG tips.
Allways a final squeeze.
I never re-use the bag, not that poor(yet)
