Plymouth have a pretty huge catchment area for youngsters. Good decision to have Warren 'Al Add' Aspinall there

Aspinall will be able to judge if he is good enough for the DS and a future prospect.

Interesting, and the two Plymouth fan comments are hilarious too. Do they realise their finances aren't exactly sound?

It's easier to take if your better players are bought by a premiership team. I can understand their frustration to be honest. And I think it'll take a few more years for people's opinions about us to change. Amex and the Gus revolution seems to have passed many by.

Hmm it doesn't seem that long ago our fans were saying similar things about letting our players go cheaply. It's a valid point and its very irritating seeing other clubs take advantage of your situation.

MANAGER John Sheridan has highlighted the potential of 16-year-old Plymouth Argyle apprentice Ryan Lane.

The versatile left-sided midfielder has played as a substitute in the Pilgrims' last two pre-season games, away to Tiverton Town and Bath City.

Sheridan thought the performance of Lane was one of the plus points to come out of the goalless draw with Bath on Tuesday.

He admitted the academy product could be involved when Argyle play League One outfit MK Dons at Home Park on Sunday (3pm) in their penultimate pre-season game.

Lane was sent on in the 61st minute against Bath and the Pilgrims boss was impressed at how he slotted into the side.

Sheridan told Herald Sport: "I was very pleased with the way young Ryan played. I think he looked very comfortable.

"The thing I like about him is that he walks on the pitch and he struts around like he is a good player.

"I like that in someone young. He has got that little arrogance as a footballer but not in a bad way.

"I think he played two-touch all night and he didn't give the ball away once. Well, I didn't see him do that."

Lane, a former Ivybridge Community College student, only started out as an apprentice at Argyle earlier this month.

Sheridan had seen him play within the club's academy set-up last season, but Lane also came recommended by Gary Owers.

Owers is now Sheridan's number two but was previously head of coaching for Argyle's academy, under the leadership of Kevin Hodges.

Sheridan said: "I have seen him (Lane) play before. Gary speaks very highly of him and so does Kev (Hodges).

"Even when he first came and trained with us, I just liked the look of him.

"He caresses the ball and plays simple, but he can be a nasty thing when he wants to be and I like that in a young footballer.

"You have got to have belief in yourself more than anyone else. I was very pleased with him against Bath.

"He can play left-sided but I think I like him in the middle of the park. He was a plus point to come out of the game.

"He got involved the other day as well (at Tiveton), and I wouldn't be frightened of even involving against MK Dons."

Championship club Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove Albion are tracking the progress of Argyle's first-year professional striker Tyler Harvey.

Brighton scout Warren Aspinall has watched Harvey, 18, play as a substitute in the Pilgrims' pre-season games against Tiverton and Bath.

It was Brighton who paid an undisclosed fee for former Argyle under-18s goalkeeper Christian Walton last season.

We were up in arms with Norwich not so long ago
I know we are well liked down here and as a brighton fan its a good place to be but this may start wearing thin as keep taking their players, various others have gone over the years, but to various clubs, anyhow i think the janners are sensible enough to know that they still have to sell and i am sure they will have sell ons
I think Argyle will do well this year, Sheridan really sorted them out and they played good football in the last quater of the season, most have stayed and they have bought well, the finances are straight and the plans for home park are very nice indeed, if anyone is in the south west when the season starts try and make a game, wear your albion shirt and go to the fansfest, its great fun, Bristol Rovers will win that league this year, play offs for Argyle

Frustrating yes. Harsh business reality also yes. As you say, we had to put up with it, so will they.

Yes. Hopefully something like "well done Rovers and Argyle, but it's more division 4 rubbish for us next season"

Or, "well done on winning the league, and for making for the play offs. Lend us a tenner? Conference life is hard."

Wow. I would have hoped that Brighton fans might be a little less prone to hubris than some others, given our (still) very recent history.
