It might well have been discussed already (couldn't find it if it has ) but I'm surprised in this day and age that anybody would deem fit a club to host the Open that bars women from joining and only allows them to play as visitors or guests of male members. Royal Sandwhich, Royal Troon and the R&A of St Andrews are the same as well.
Outdated views or a perfectly healthy attitude as given below by R&A chief executive Peter Dawson when he says, "'I totally believe in equality but I also believe there are times when men need to socialise with men, and women need to socialise with women. I think it reflects the majority opinion."

The R&A, a private club of 2,400 male members based in St. Andrews, Scotland, is the world governing body of golf outside the United States and Mexico.
Founded in 1754, it has never had a female member.
