Albion’s development squad face VSC Guimaraes tomorrow, 5pm kick-off, in the first of two pre-season friendlies in Portugal.Youth manager Simon Rusk is in attendance as a number of his under-18 squad have made the trip to Porto, and the coach feels it will be a different sort of test for some of his players.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “It is a great opportunity for the under-18s that have been called into the squad because they will get to mix with some of the older development players and they will also be pushed out of their comfort zones.
"This will also be a different footballing cultural experience, which will really help their development as players.
“I am sure they will all play some part in both games and it will provide a stern test technically and tactically, and I have no doubt the players will use the experiences to help them become better players."
Senior members of the development squad Shamir Goodwin, Rob Hunt, Torbjorn Agdestein and Grant Smith are all expected to feature tomorrow, with recently promoted Glen Rea also expected to play. Solly March, Courtney Richards, Rohan Ince, George Barker and Brennan Dickenson will not be playing as all have linked up with the first team for the training camp in Madrid.
