Is this position what used to be referred to as the much maligned director of football? Also other than identifying potential transfer targets where else are his skills utilised? I guess I'm just interested about what his remit is.

It was heavily advertised role. Basically heading up football strategy, youth policy, in charge for scouting, player recruitment etc
