With a newborn just days old, I'm not surprised he didn't want to move away from family. Could see him going somewhere a bit closer than Cardiff, but still in the PL though.

That's the reason he has given but is it true? If he signs a 3 or 4 year contract why can't he move to Cardiff? He doesn't have to live in Cardiff, and the toddler certainly isn't at play school etc. The only link would be the fact that maybe his wife's family are in Blackpool. Suspect that he would change his mind if a bigger club than Cardiff came in for him!
