Has anyone been?

Never been to Portugal myself but the new girl i'm seeing has a family place out there so heading over in August. The actual place is called Olhos De Agua but think that's a small village.

is so any advice on decent restaurants or tips. Googled and found a decent waterpark and some nice looking beaches.

i went to Albufeira a couple years ago- a quainter version of Spain, it seems. very friendly folks, usual amenities. Try speaking Spanish, and they will give local version!

Bon Dia is hello / good day

Bon Noche (I think) is good night.

if all else fails, just smile, wave yer credit card!

Hi, went to next Village (which links to Albufuera) just over two weeks ago. John Terry & family on flight - he has villa near Villamoura I understand. We stayed at Oura. The place your staying is small but very pretty. We ate at lovely restaurant where your staying - think it was called La Cigale (i think thats the spelling) right on front overlooking sea. Loule just up the road worth visiting. Hot, sea pretty rough and cold (Atlantic). Have a good time.

If you go to The Nineteenth Hole. Please say hello to the owner, Vasco, and the guy who does the karaoke, Si, for me.

Been there a few times, stayed in hotels and a Villa. Loved it everytime and the Marina at night is great for bars & restaurants, Casino close by as well if you like that kind of thing. Sea is cold though but, hey your holiday get on with it.

Can't wait to go back.

Went to Vilamoura a couple of years ago on a family holiday. We rented an up market villa on an estate with a couple of nice pools etc..
The place is nice but like a luxury housing estate.
As said the quainter areas of Algarve a few miles away.

Forgot to say we bumped into Dennis Irwin whilst walking across the golf course one evening. A really nice guy, very friendly.

Figo's bar is good for lunch time snacks. Mariscana (sp) near the Tivoli do great steaks and piri piri. Ostroduro is also a good restaurant

We went a few years ago, there is a nice marina with posh totty and nice yachts. Several Golf courses.
We liked it as it was quite relaxed, i can't remember if there were any clubs i think it was more of a couples/family place.

The Albion were based there twice during their pre season tours in 2010 & 2011. We stayed in Albufeira but visited Vilamoura a couple of times. The marina is lovely, we went on a half day trip to the caves from there.

Been going to this area for many years, where to start? Yes La Cigale has a great location and food was good last time I went. Olhos d'Agua is between Vilamoura (swanky marina, casino, many restaurants, Figo's bar) and Albufeira (big Algarve tourist resort). Water parks, golf courses, quaint villages back in the hills, great beaches, interesting trips, a chilled atmosphere, a massive sand sculpture exhibition all nearby. Your girl probably knows what's good. For a great chicken and chips, it has to be Marufo between Quarteira and Almancil. Museu do Lagar in Loule does the classic Alentejo pork with clams. Or try black pork, bacalhau or a cataplana. Enjoy the Sagres and Super Bock beers. The more you look the more you'll find.

Mmm black pork & cataplana (not together) are delicious. I would thoroughly recommend either. Black port is from pigs fed entirely on acorns.

Very nice place for quite holiday, not full on clubs excetra ,
Would need a car to get to the nearest busy town in Quaterria ,
Very nice marina complex but very expensive catering for all the boat owners.

great stuff so far, thanks to all that have contributed!

she loves the beaches and relaxing but Vilamoura with it's bars and a casino sound decent for a few nights.

Le Cigale has been noted and anywhere selling 1.50e beers sounds good to me

The Algarve is all good even Albufeira as a main resort is not as bad as you would expect, love Algarve beaches, prefer it to Spain and often cooler from the Atlantic

I went with my wife and kids a few years back and it was on the week that bobby Robson held his celebrity golf event. Was walking round the marina and saw this boat pull in. Well to my amazement it was none other than perry digweed!! I must have been the only one in amongst hundreds of people who knew who he was..... Small world

The Championship.
Came back from there last week. Good night life with plenty of English people out there! The marina is lovely, nice restaurants and the people are very friendly. You'll enjoy it alot.

Pints are like over £4 though and paid 8 euros for a vodka redbull which I thought was a bit of a joke although I did have a really good time.
