I doubt they're aiming at the average American though, more of a direct assault on any fans of the PL 'product'.

After all,there's no way that anyone who paid even the faintest attention last year wouldn't know who Bale is, he is quite good.

Spot on with the reference to Charlton Heston. I think that Cornelius is a good nickname for Bale.
