David*has issued a come and get me plea to Albion.
But he has warned he cannot wait much longer to find out if he is wanted back at The Amex.
David was offered a new one-year deal by the Seagulls in May following a successful debut season in English football.
The 30-year-old Spanish midfielder scored nine goals in 31 Championship outings to help Albion reach the play-offs after former boss Gus Poyet signed him on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao.
Poyet has since been sacked pending an appeal and Oscar Garcia appointed as head coach, leaving set- piece specialist David in limbo.
He told The Argus: “I am still waiting to hear from Brighton. My first choice is Brighton. I have other clubs interested in me in the Championship in England and the First Division in Spain but I want to play for them. I enjoyed my first season at the club. The other players, management and supporters were very good to me and my family were made to feel very welcome.
“The length of contract is not a problem. I would happily sign for another year. I know about the success Oscar Garcia had in Israel last season and playing under a Spanish manager would be good. He knows our characteristics as players.”
Crowd favourite David, dubbed ‘Spanish Dave’ by fans, is currently at home in Logrono in Northern Spain, training alone or with friends.
Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Reading are all believed to be monitoring his situation, together with Espanyol.
David said: “I need to know what is happening by the end of this week so that I can make a decision and start training properly with a team.”
David has also hit back at fellow Spaniard Vicente’s end-of-season outburst about Poyet’s methods.
The former Valencia playmaker branded Poyet “selfish” and “egocentric”.
David said: “I read what Vicente said in The Argus and I disagree. Gus Poyet was fantastic for me.”
