24 hours to raise £50k to save the Shots
By Pete Bryant
July 04, 2013

FANS of Aldershot Town FC must dig deep and help raise up to £50,000 in the next 24 hours in order to save the club from being liquidated.

A meeting between the consortium led by chairman Shahid Azeem - that has bid in the region of £650,000 for ownership of the club - and the creditors was held at the EBB Stadium today (July 4).

It was deemed that the offer on the table is close to being acceptable but that a shortfall of up to £50,000 is required to meet the creditors' demands.

This amount could yet be reduced if the remaining creditors agree to reduce the debts owed to them to allow the bid to succeed.

Aldershot Town FC went into administration on May 2, five days after being relegated from the Football League, with debts of around £1million.

After creditors voted in favour of a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA), shareholders at the meeting were asked if they were willing to make donations to bring a deal over the line. This appeal has now been extended to the wider community in an attempt to make up the remaining shortfall.

Those that have already donated money to the escrow account, where money for a pre-share offer for the club was being held, are also being given the option to have this transferred to the new appeal as a donation.

Supporters trust chairman Terry Owens said negotiations were continuing between the administrators Quantuma Restructuring and a "handful" of creditors who still had not lowered their demands to match the offer on the table.

On the agreement of the CVA, he added: "This is the first hurdle to jump. Now it's been agreed we need to jump the bigger hurdle which is the creditors' arrangements."

Tensions ran high at the meeting, but was described by one of the club's founders Graham Brookland as positive.

"The outcome at the end of the meeting suggested we have a future which we can work on," he said. "For the club to fall for the sake of £25,000 or £50,000 would be disastrous."

A deadline of 5pm tomorrow (July 5) has been set to bridge the shortfall although the administrators would like payment via cheque.

To donate, send cheques to Quantuma ATFC, Aldershot Town Football Club, The EBB Stadium, High Street, Aldershot, GU11 1TW or Quantuma ATFC, Quantuma Restructuring, 30 Oxford Street, Southampton, SO14 3DJ.

It's a terrible situation and one that I am close to as my dad has been a season ticket hlder there for 40 years.
The supporters have had the stuffing knocked out of them and understandably so.
Truth is they had beeen fire fighting financially since going full time but it all went belly up at the end of last season by a ridiculous power struggle at boardroom level
Of the 1.4 million that they owe 500k of that is to directors and for reasons that are not particularly clear, though the subject of lots of speculation, it was one of the directors that put them into administration.
In short its a bloody mess!!
There will be those that say that they have been there before, not learned their lesson so sod them. Hard to argue with that really.
If however you do have an ounce of sympathy for the club then I hope maybe some of you can find a small donation.
The radio interview below is with Terry Owens - former director who thankfully has changed his mind since that interview and is now leading the community ownership campaign.
I have posted it before and so apologise for repeating myself but if it tugs on your heart strings and means that even one or two of you can spare a few quid then I make no apology for that.

I met Paul Goddard last week, one of the administrators and he was not confident that the club wold be saved. Unfortunately he was saying that as business it would be very hard to make it viable and therefore they really need a fans group or a wealthy fan but both need to be prepared to lose money. They don't really have any assets and t does look pretty grim!

Having folded previously then re formed in 1992 it shows how precarious a business it is to again get into that level of debt.

You'd think they'd attract decent crowds there with the army bases and Farnborough and Farnham next door. Guildford isn't far away either.

How far is it to our nearest league club. Run that distance around Aldershot and you can come up with 10 league clubs without breaking into a sweat!

Aldershot are 40 miles away from us. After Crawley, they are the joint second closest team to us along with Palace.

There are 20 clubs closer to Aldershot than us. Reading are only 15 miles away and Fulham and Chelsea are less than 30 miles away. The lure of Premier League football, folks. :nono:

He's spot on. And you should hope so to giving the amount of money he's charging them. Priority is saving them in the short term and that is going to be a labour of love for all concerned. The only sustainable model for the long term is a new ground that they own and regular non matchday income through conference facilities, offices, hotel or what have you.

But right now - they need 25k - simple as!

All you fans that didn't pay who climbed over the fence all those years ago if you now pay and the interest should cover the £50,000 plus the guy that broke the crossbar!
