From the Argus......

Oscar will stick to his attacking philosophy

6:00am Friday 28th June 2013 in Sport By Brian Owen

Oscar Garcia loves to play attacking football
Oscar Garcia took charge as Albion’s new head coach – and told fans he is “obsessed” with attacking football.

The former Barcelona striker and Maccabi Tel Aviv boss reckons he has already seen good things in his first day at training.

Now he has stressed he wants to go out and create chances.

Garcia said last night: “I’m impressed with the people I’m working with at Brighton and I’m very happy.

“It’s a pleasure for me to be here. This morning I met all the players and I saw a lot of good things this afternoon.

“My obsession is to attack, to attack the opposition, to keep the ball and to have the ball as many times as possible “If we have the ball we will have many chances to score and win the game. That’s my philosophy.”

The 40-year-old has taken a newly created role after manager Gus Poyet was sacked on Sunday.

He said chairman Tony Bloom had an easy time selling Albion to his new employee.

Garcia added: “It wasn’t difficult for him because I knew the club, I knew English football and I knew some players who are playing here.

“We arrived at an agreement quickly.”

The key to any successful promotion challenge is a solid back 5. Lets hope Oscar doesn't lose sight of this...

Given he says he knows about some of the players, I can only assume he has watched hours of video footage of the squad before his arrival?

Orlandi was at Barca for a few years so he'll probably know him quite well. Fairly sure he's crossed paths with Bruno too. On top of that, he'll know about Calde, Ulloa, Dave and PIG.

Edit: Yep, he was at Espanyol and LLeida at the same time as Bruno.

Sounds familiar! :)

'to have the ball as many times as possible ?'

Being a pedant this is not quite a correct statement and requires clarification. Surely if you have the ball once a the start of a game and never give it to the opposition , it is a good thing. Also losing it a lot of times and getting it back a lot of times is not necessarily a good thing?

Excited none the less.

No, he said he knows some of the players, not about them.

I made that point on the other thread. It's the Spanish way.

I think we can forgive him this minor grammatical slip seeing as English isn't his first language (I'm guessing he made this comment in English?). In Spanish they don't differentiate between 'much' and 'many'.

I'm not so sure we can. What exactly does he mean by this? It sounds to me like he's touting himself for a bigger job, and that he had no plan b whatsoever.

Just like watching Brasil!
Who cares if you let in a couple as long as you score four. Could be rather exciting stuff if we get anything like Rodgers or Laudraups Swansea team of the last couple of seasons. They like to keep the ball but they prefer passing the ball forward rather than sideways. Who knows?

I'll be honest and admit I'd never heard of Oscar until last month, but the more I learn of him the more I am genuinely getting excited about the new flairista.

Every time we score the other team gain possession at kickoff...
