Can you recommend a decent film from the last year ?

That may have slipped my radar. With the dvd shops closed I have to buy my films now and at £ 10 a pop am choosy.

Brought, well forced to buy films I would have hired this year

Argo - very good
Les Miserables - decent enough if you like that sort of thing
Silver Linings Playbook - still to watch but brought on good word of mouth

Cinema

Lincoln - very good but more of a lesson in history
Quartet - a lovely little film

Anything from the last year or so worth checking out or spending money on ?

If you have an Xbox, it's well worth getting Blinkbox, you get access to films as they come out on DVD at rental prices. I hate buying films as you only tend to watch them once. Them again you might not have an xbox.

I need a way of watching new films without shelling out £ 10 a pop.

No fee with Blinkbox. £ 3.49 for very up to date movies. Plug your HDMI lappy or tablet into your TV, and away you go. Works for me. (I'm guessing you don't have an XBOX or Playstation.)

I live in the dark ages mate. We have only had electricity here in Spielberg Towers recently.

Torrents, or you could subscribe to Sky Movies who've got a decent on demand selection now. If not look at Netflix streaming service or maybe Lovefilms and use their combined streaming/disks at home service.

Edit just noticed your reply about technology, in that case look at Lovefilm and their postal service.

Whack The Silver Linings Playbook on asap, very enjoyable, you might even be wiping a tear away at the end.

2011

Oh, I forgot to mention Prometheus, quite a good sci-fi. IMDB only give it 7.1 but I think it's a bit better than that.

Same here. Great film, especially Pan's...

It's worth watching Almodovar's other films if you haven't already. He's one of the best directors in the world at the moment, and they are all quite ****ed up in their own way!

Thanks for the tip, I will try and track some down.
