If that was the case, would he not want to get this all out of the way ASAP and have attended the meeting to clear it all up?

Maybe , or could he have been advised that it was not in his interest to appear today. If you recall on MOTD last night he did appear to not know what it was he is accused of. So maybe he awaits clarification to put his case.

He might well want to stay, now he has had a few weeks to reflect on things, coupled with the fact that as of this moment no one seems to want him and his stock is going down faster than the titanic. But there is no way on earth the club want him to. In fact I think it will be a few years before he is invited back for any legends evenings in the future.

Or it could be his suspension has derailed any chance he had of getting another job.

Maybe, but then he has only got himself to blame for that. As he has only got himself to blame for everything. All he had to do, was do his job. Hold his tongue and his chance would have come around soon enough and we could have all parted as friends.

It's quite possible. The LMA statement seems to state that he was advised not to turn up today because he didn't have time to read the 500 page report in time.

Did they? The comment from the LMA thanking them about adjourning the hearing doesn't sound like they did, otherwise the LMA would say something to boost their case.

Also, it has repeatedly been made clear to the Club that Gus’s LMA representative, Richard Bevan was not available to accompany him
today, but was available to attend on Thursday 20th or Friday 21st June as well. These two dates fall within the five working day period
for an employee to offer alternatives to the original date set by the Club as set-out in the Club’s own handbook. We believe that our
members are entitled to the same legal protections that other employees enjoy. Football clubs need to observe basic employment rights
like any other employer in our view. Just to be clear, however, we are confident that Gus will demonstrate there is no case to answer in this matter.

Notwithstanding these important points, the Club decided to go-ahead with the hearing in the absence of both Gus and Richard Bevan.
Late this afternoon the Club agreed to adjourn and reconvene the disciplinary hearing to Thursday 20th June 2013.
The LMA is pleased that the Club has agreed to an arrangement whereby Gus and his chosen representative will be able to attend.
