Vicente is believed to be keen on an Albion return under a new boss
VICENTE could make a dramatic return to Albion — if Gus Poyet is no longer in charge.
The Spanish playmaker is keen on a return to The Amex under a new manager.
Vicente, 31, was released at the end of the season after 18 starts in two injury-hit campaigns with the Seagulls.
The former Valencia star and Spanish international left with a parting blast for the suspended Poyet, branding the Uruguayan as “selfish” and “egocentric” and the “worst person I’ve come across in football.”
Vicente has attracted interest from clubs in his homeland, Belgium, Germany and Italy but would relish a return to the South Coast under a different manager.
The Argus understands the Seagulls would be open to the possibility of re-signing him, depending on the outcome of the club’s ongoing investigations into Poyet for allegedly breaching his contract.
Vicente was a firm favourite with fans, in spite of his sporadic appearances caused by injury problems which tested Poyet’s patience.
Meanwhile, Albion could offer Shoreham-born former Arsenal reserve striker Rhys Murphy a route back into English football.
They have been in contact with the 22-year-old with a view to a pre-season trial after monitoring his progress last season with Dutch second division outfit Telstar, where he scored eight goals in 26 league games.
Lancing-based Murphy told The Argus on Monday he would welcome a return to the English game.
