County season could begin overseas

Interesting idea, typically though the time when they are abroad would coincide with the only period of sunny weather in the UK!

Given the falling numbers of attendees for CC games can't see there being a massive impact on attendance figures. Would extend the impact of the IPL on the counties too.

Would be good experience for some of the county players to get used to bowling/batting in different conditions that would help with development to the England side.

How much is this currently? I've a standard membership with a 2nd transferable guest card and have always thought it a bit of a snip when compared to other memberships/subscriptions I have (eg Albion, Goodwood, Golf .......).

£230-odd, transferable as no photo on the card. Still good value IMHO.

October tends to be a bit clearer so they would be better doing it then.

Would it be fair to decide CC or YB40 titles in a different country?

Would prefer that the YB40 was a knock out competition played in West Indies and all resolved by May, opening up more space in the calendar.

I posted a response to the writer of that piece, and suggested that if they want to extend the season into October on the back of weather issues, perhaps they could consider playing some matches in say, Spain or Italy.

Admittedly there wouldn't be too many cricket venues at present, but the ECB could invest in a set-up not dissimilar to St George's Park, and have that as a year-round venue. Fanciful certainly and would cost millions, but it does present an opportunity for (a) Brits and expats to catch a game in some warm October sunshine, without the expense of going to the Caribbean, and taking in a La Liga or Serie A match in the evening and (b) to promote the game in Europe.

Well, it was just a thought.

Indeed have often been down in the Canaries Feb/March in ideal Cricket conditions and often thought what a great place to play winter cricket.

Ridiculous idea- County Cricket is dying on its feet now because no one hardly goes to watch a game. By moving matches to overseas to countries that don't have an interest in the sport, it would kill of the game.

They just need to make it three divisions of six. Then you'd have increase an increase of competitive matches and ,hopefully, more positive game play and get more of the youngsters playing against decent pros. At the moment we call up bowlers and batsmen who've done it in Division 2 and are suprised when they're undone by the first decent player they come against.
