Move to gibraltar!

"Gibraltar has been accepted as a full member membership of Uefa, European football's governing body.

Their application was approved on a majority vote at the organisation's congress in London, with no votes against and no abstentions.

The British Overseas Territory off the south coast of Spain has a population of just under 30,000.

Gibraltar will be allowed to enter qualifying for the 2016 European Championship."

Saw Gib play in a 3 2 defeat in The Nat West Island Games v The Isle of Wight in 2011 ,they had a few players who played 5/6 th tier in The Spanish league. The Victoria Stadium in Gib hold's about 4000.

Doesn't this open the floodgates to the Isle of Man, Falklands, Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and God knows, maybe even Sark? Actually this could backfire drastically if one of these territories managed to produce a star player. Currenly, 'nationals' of any of these are allowed to choose any of the four UK countries to play for, but that concession would surely end unless the player qualifed in a second way.

Can someone clarify how Fifa & Uefa works in regards to accepting non-sovereign nations?

Faroe Islands, Hong Kong, Guam, British Virgin Islands and of course England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are some existing ones to name a few.

Any chance of Uefa accepting a Catalonia team etc?

How about an Isle of Wight team ?

spain were really strongly against gibraltar joining uefa, evening threatening to withdraw their club sides from competitions....they'd go absolutely apeshit if catalunya/basque country were allowed in

not least because their talent pool would be dramatically reduced

there's a pretty strong argument for catalunya and the basque country becoming independent footballing nations in my view

Nah, UEFA changed the rules to only allow sovereign states, as recognised by the UN, to join, however, Gibraltar's application came before said rule so they were allowed to enter. Will probably be the last application of this sort.
