Following the casino incident last week...... Players unhappy and taking it to the PFA.

Glad to see we are not the only club in turmoil!!

Whilst I think Paulo is a moron I do admire him for this. I read that it's mainly for turning up late for meetings, not turning up for club events and general lack of communication. More managers should get heavy with their players if they do not adhere to simple rules which players seem to think they're above.

I've not rated him, but he seems to have principles that he expects from his players, and there's nothing wrong with that. I still find it difficult to understand him though.

Hopefully the PFA takes the Professional bit of their name to heart and tells them to actually act like professionals rather than teenagers who've been given some cash to look after themselves while the kids are away. Paolo seems to be fining them for perfectly reasonable reasons in my opinion, and I'd hope the same treatment would be dished out to our players if they were behaving in a similar way.

I really hope that the Albion taking a formal route in dealing with Gus and Di Canio getting heavy with his players is a sign that clubs will start to apply some decent standards rather than turn a blind eye to problems. I agree that the test will be how the PFA react.

Players live within the privileged football 'bubble' and understandably they get out of touch with the realities of the real world. When held to account some throw their toys out of the pram, blackmailing the Club when a player rebels and threatens to leave when, egged on by their agent

Fortunately there are many decent players (Calderon comes to mind) who recognise their responsibilities and go the extra mile off the pitch. But there are too many champagne charlies who expect all the trappings of success, huge wages and love the rock star lifestyle but don't want to be accountable.

Apart from the casino stuff allegedly one of the players singled out by Di Canio claimed he was ill and unable to attend a club commitment, Di Canio arranged for the Club Doctor to contact the player who turned his phone off. On the face of it could be a genuine scenario but if the player was ill then nothing to fear.

I actually like Di Canio is that wrong? ???

No, i'm starting to warm to him. He's basically trying get it across to his players that they are role models who get paid a lot of money and that they can start acting professionally and start justifying their large salaries. Quite right too.
